Laser processing offers a powerful way to tailor the surface of a material without changing its bulk properties. In this webinar with Mirka Flimelová (HiLASE Centre) we will explore how laser parameters translate into specific surface features – from micro- and nanostructures to changes in wettability and surface chemistry – and how these properties can influence biological response.
Using examples from antibacterial and biomedical surface research, we will look at how laser-induced structures can affect bacterial adhesion and cell interactions, and why seemingly similar surfaces may sometimes lead to very different biological outcomes. The session will provide an interdisciplinary perspective on how lasers can be used to design functional surfaces and why understanding the whole chain from processing to biological response is essential.
