Me as a Leader
Leadership in science doesn’t begin with a team or an institution. It begins with the individual – with the ability to understand oneself, take responsibility for one’s role, and consciously work with the impact we have on the people around us.
Many researchers step into leadership roles during their careers without systematic preparation. Not because they set out to lead, but because they are strong experts in their fields. With this comes new expectations, pressure, responsibility, and often uncertainty.
- How to stay on course?
- How to work with your own motivation?
- How to manage uncertainty, stress, and long-term demands?
We see personal leadership as the fundamental building block of everything else. Without self-reflection, without working with one’s own energy, and without a clear grounding in values, it is difficult to lead others effectively in the long term. This modul creates space to slow down, name reality, and consciously work on oneself in the role of a scientific leader.
It is not about finding the ideal leader. It is about finding your own style that is authentic, sustainable, and understandable to those around you.
Key Topics of the Me as a Leader Module
Leader’s Focus and Working with Priorities
How we work with our focus in an environment full of distractions, pressures, and constant demands? What we consciously choose and what we devote our energy to? How to distinguish between what is important and what is urgent, and not let ourselves be consumed by day-to-day tasks in the long term?
Self-reflection and Self-awareness
The ability to look at ourselves with perspective and openness. What are our strengths? Where are our blind spots? How does our behavior affect the team’s functioning? Self-reflection as a tool for growth, not self-criticism.
Vision, Values, and Personal Responsibility
What direction do we want to give our work as leaders? What is truly important to us and why? How can we take responsibility for our own vision and communicate it clearly to others? Leadership does not begin with the expectations of those around us, but with clarity within ourselves.
Internal Motivation and Energy Management
How to maintain long-term motivation in a demanding, uncertain, and often fragmented environment? How to manage your own energy in a sustainable way? How to recognize the warning signs of overload and burnout in time?
Mental Resilience and Adaptability
How to gain the ability to respond to change, uncertainty, and pressure without losing inner stability? How to build resilience without suppressing emotions? How to learn from difficult situations and not remain trapped in them?
Leader’s Emotional Intelligence
How to recognize and regulate your own emotions? How we understand their influence on decision-making and prioritizing? How our emotional attitudes affect the people around us? Emotional intelligence as a key leadership tool, not a weakness?
Safe Personal and Team Space
How to create an environment that allows people to speak openly about their doubts, mistakes, and difficult emotions? How to start with yourself and gradually transfer this approach to your team?
How Others See Me and How I See Myself
How to work with your personal leadership brand? What image do we create of ourselves through our behavior, decisions, and communication? How to align our own perception of the leader role with how others perceive us?
