Leadership Bites: New Networking Events Series Kicks Off in May

Our new series of morning gatherings is launching to bring together scientists, research leaders, and professionals from innovation environment. Leadership Bites creates a space for inspiration, practical insights, and informal networking over coffee.

In May, you can look forward to the first networking events from the Leadership Bites series. This series is designed to support and inspire leaders from the research and innovation communities. Our goal is to create a shared space to exchange modern leadership approaches and discuss raw, real-world experience. Each session combines a short, engaging talk by a guest speaker with discussion and networking, creating a space where participants can share experiences, ask questions, and connect with colleagues facing similar challenges in research environment.

Our networking sessions for scientific leaders are held once a month, every time from 9 to 11 a.m. Whether you are a research group leader, project manager, or preparing for a leadership role, Leadership Bites offers a valuable space to pause, gain new perspectives, and share experiences with fellow professionals. What are the plans for spring?

Coaching in Research – How to Manage Conversations, People, and Yourself More Effectively

The first session, taking place on May 12, 2026, will focus on Coaching in Science and is organized in collaboration with the International Coaching Federation (ICF) as part of International Coaching Week. In research environments, leadership often involves navigating demanding situations – from discussing mistakes and providing constructive feedback to supporting colleagues in becoming more independent and responsible for their work. This session will explore how a coaching approach can help address these challenges and foster more open and solution-oriented communication within research teams.

During the session, Marie Feřtrová and Eva Rybková, ICF-certified coaches, will introduce participants to the principles of coaching and demonstrate how communication and leadership can influence team dynamics and problem-solving. The program will combine a short interactive introduction with practical exercises and model situations from the scientific environment, allowing participants to try simple coaching techniques that can support effective feedback, collaboration, and leadership in research teams.

Strategy vs. Culture in a Scientific Institution

The second session, taking place on May 20, 2026, will explore the topic of Strategy vs. Culture in a Scientific Institution. Tomáš Mocek, Director of the HiLASE Centre, and Jana De Merlier, Strategic Development Manager at the HiLASE Centre, will share insights from their journey with HiLASE, on how to align strategic management with the creation of a safe, stimulating, and values-based environment.

The session will offer an open exchange of experiences, including blind alleys and examples of what didn’t work the first time, as well as what has proven to be truly effective. Together, we will discuss how to build a healthy research culture and how to meaningfully align it with the organization’s strategy.

At our third session, scheduled for June 16, 2026, we will focus on HR in Science with Olga Lakomá from the HiLASE HR team. Other topics you can look forward to in the Leadership Bites series include, for example, scientific communication.

Please note that it is necessary to sign up for all events in advance. You can register in the “Events” section of our website where we will be posting details about events gradually. We are looking forward to inspiring gatherings with you at Leadership Bites!
